As promised - pictures of Crescent Beach. If you're curious as to where it is, go to Google Maps and type in Crescent Beach, Nova Scotia. You can scroll around to see where it is in relation to Lunenburg or even Halifax. I tried to get the link for you, but the technology gods were not cooperating!!
The sand beach is separated from the tidal flats and salt marsh of Dublin Bay by sand dunes which rise in height from 2m in the west to 6.8m near the east end. A large wooden fence has existed between the beach and dunes since the 1930s.

This is Taz running back to me after she has retrieved her stick. There's not a lot of sticks on the beach - and she wouldn't leave me alone until we found one. Note to self: take stick with us when we go to Crescent Beach!!

The next two pictures are taken from the road that separates the dunes and the marsh. The road goes out to some of the LaHave Islands - and prior to it being built, the beach was used as a path out to George's Island.
Cars are actually allowed on this beach - not a standard practice on beaches in Nova Scotia.
Picture looking out over the marsh.
I found this wonderful website full of pictures (much better than mine) of Crescent Beach. I spent a great deal of time looking through them - there are some from the 20's and 30's (I love looking at old pictures and the old cars on the beach with families out swimming - of course anything to do with history and I'm in heaven). There are also pictures of the damage done from tropical storm Noel in 2007, wonderful wildlife pictures and a stunning sunset picture.
Ah, I love living in Nova Scotia (must be that Pisces' need for water). I hope you enjoyed the little glimpse into my 'backyard' (yes, I am only 15 minutes away from this beach - and the day we went, we had the whole place to ourselves).
Have a great day, People of Blogland :)

I love the new look!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics. I've only been to NS once (Halifax), but that was during one November. Not exactly beach weather. ;)
Thanks, Stina - coming from you that's a huge compliment (re: Pictures). I'm all about the PhD camera and when I look at the pics afterwards I wonder if I could have done better if I tried using some other settings on the thing! Oh, well - at least it gives you an idea of how great the beach is.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right, November is not beach weather - but we still manage to go (bundle up), the dog loves it.
Glad you liked the new look. Anyone having problems with the text on white?
I like the new digs!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful beach. I love living by the water as well. I lived in Edmonton for a couple of years and was surprised how much I missed the ocean.
I like it! Bright, crisp, clean. Just like a day at the beach, hehe. Lovely pictures. I'm counting down the days til we're there!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome new design, Janet. =o)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the beautiful pics. I miss beaches and they really made me smile this morning.
Thanks, Anne - not sure if I'm done tweaking yet, or not. But it does 'feel' good.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe I was born and raised on the Prairies - I love the water that much. And even though we're not on the water, knowing that I can zip out in my car and get to a beach in 15 minutes is very comforting. And the great thing about the beaches around here - depending on my mood, I have options (there are times when I love a big surf beach - and others when I just want the gentle waves).
I didn't know you lived in Edmonton! I know the city very well - friends live there and it was our destination city when we lived in the north.
"...like a day at the beach." - YOu're right Lu - I searched the new designs for water backgrounds, but they were too blue, too much; this just seemed perfect.
ReplyDeleteWon't be long now - I'll have some out of the way beaches for you to check out when you get here :)
Thanks, B.E. - and I'm so glad my pictures made you smile today!
ReplyDeleteI love the new look, very summery! I so need to save money and come and visit it looks gorgous. The picture of Taz needs to be closer so I can see her:) Well we have had 4 days of glorious sun, but apperently back to the rain. So my own personal waves will be back in my yard. I am so over rain:( Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHey, Richelle - it is rather summery, isn't it? I had a purple scheme first, very bold, but it just didn't feel right. This does!
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, you will have to save your money and come for visit. The beaches are great - and the weather! But I think we're getting your sunny spring/summer and you're getting our very wet one.
I'll remember next time to take a close-up of Taz - I wanted to shoe how big the beach was!
Janet - your new look is gorgeous, dahling!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for taking us for your walk along the beach...ah...
Love the joy in the picture of Taz!
Thank you, Julia :)
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about a beach, eh? And Taz, she loves, loves, loves going to the beach - as long as there's a stick! Very important to have a stick to chase. And it keeps her mind off going in the water - I swear she's part water dog!
