Friday Fiction - With a Little Help from my Friends...

It's been a while since I've had some fiction up here on Friday - and since I'm too busy to churn out a short story, I thought it would be fun to enlist your help! That's right - it's Friday Fiction Friends' Version.

So, anyone can play. I'll start with a sentence and then if you want to play along (and I really hope you do), you can add to the sentence with a sentence of your own. We'll keep playing all day - I'll come back and add stuff and please feel free to play the game more than once. Let's see what kind of story we can come up with.

The moon bathed the yard in a silvery light allowing Celeste to navigate the garden gnome nightmare that was her mother's garden with ease.

Have fun, People of Blogland - and have a great weekend :)

  1. She suppressed the urge to kick over each ignoble statue as she passed even though her delicate toes would never feel a thing as they were encased safely behind her steel-toed biker boots.

    *grin* I love this game.

  2. She pushed open the shed door, slipped inside, and bent to retrieve the bundle from under the lawn mower.

  3. Too late to back down now, the die was cast and Celeste refused to be the one who failed the others.

  4. She peeked out the door and her heart jackhammered as a shadow drifted across the face of the full moon.

  5. With the bundle clasped to her chest, she slid deep into the shadows and held her breath.

  6. The shadow moved away, perhaps searching for fresh prey, and Celeste moved toward the house, dreading what she would find.

  7. She flitted from one dark patch to the next, praying her progress went unnoticed, and then she hit the bottom step of the porch--and forgot it creaked.

  8. The porch light flared, momentarily blinding her, accompanied by her mother's voice demanding to know where the hell she'd been for the last seven months - it didn't take that long to buy a carton of milk.

  9. What had possessed her to return home?

**I'm keeping the post live until Sunday night - so if you all want to keep going, I'm game :)

  11. Lu, your sentence cracked me up. Just sayin'. And I'm game for the game, too.

"You know what," the voice whispered in her ear before it cackled insanely.

  12. "Exactly," she replied and squared her shoulders.

  13. Celeste stomped up the porch steps, flung her bundle on the table, and turned to confront the woman who claimed to be her mother.

  14. The woman clutched her chest and glanced between the bundle and Celeste; revenge would be sweet.

  15. She flicked her gaze at Celeste's muddy boots, grinned, and said "It's time you learned the truth."

  16. "You're the offspring of gnomes, those creatures you call hideous and tacky."

  17. Ha - that was fun. Still haven't figured out what was in the bundle, though!

    Thanks People of Blogland :)
