Inspiration - Exercise...

It seems like Exercise is a constant on New Year's Resolution lists - and since we're still in January, why not look for a little inspiration to keep moving!!

The secret of getting ahead is getting started. ~ Mark Twain

Physical fitness can neither be achieved by wishful thinking nor outright purchase. ~ Joseph Pilates

Running is a big question mark that’s there each and every day. It asks you, "Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?" ~ Peter Maher, Canadian Marathon Runner (I need to put this on my treadmill!)

There's no easy way out. If there were, I would have bought it. And believe me, it would be one of my favorite things! ~ Oprah Winfrey (I think this is the first time I've used an Oprah quote)

Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person's physical, emotional, and mental states. ~ Carol Welch

And I couldn't resist the next one:

If it weren't for the fact that the TV set and the refrigerator are so far apart, some of us wouldn't get any exercise at all. ~ Joey Adams

  1. I resemble that last remark. LOL Here's my contribution for today:

Nothing happens until something moves. ~ Albert Einstein

As soon as I can breathe again, I'm back up on the gazelle. Nothing like an upper respiratory infection to nip that exercise bug before it gets around the first lap.

  2. There's nothing you can do about illness, Silver - but to rest and get better. The gazelle will still be there, waiting patiently :)

Great quote - thanks for sharing!

  3. Oh mercy, if there's something I need inspiration to get me to do it's exercise! Thanks for the quotes!

  4. Thanks for the inspiring quotes, Janet. (And that last one - it's a hoot.) I try to use Biggest Loser to inspire me to exercise. (Not that it always works, but it's something.) Seeing those folks who are so much larger and unhealthier than I am doing those workouts kicks me in the butt when nothing else does. If a 500 lb man can do it, what the heck is my problem?

  5. I enjoyed the quotes too.

For me the secret is to remind myself of how much I enjoy running. I also tell myself I only have to start and can go home anytime I want to. As it turns out, I almost never want to go home before finishing a planned run. :-)

  6. You're welcome, Karyn - isn't it amazing how we can think of 10 other things that need doing other than exercise?

  7. "No Excuses!", B.E. :)

I was a little cranky last night when NBC kept cutting in for election/preliminary coverage - I might have yelled at the TV when they wasted 15 minutes on Mitt Romney's speech while the contestants were getting nutrition advice. I may have a Biggest Loser Addiction!!

Anyway, you're right - I find the show very motivational. And I love to watch the trainers and then try and copy some of their moves on my own!

  8. Ah, the 5 Minute Rule, Janice. I try to promise myself I'll give it 5 minutes (when I don't want to do it) and, like you said, I end up continuing on for the duration. Mind games!!

I'd love to hear from you...
