Weekend Words - Sunday Edition Part 1...

Her photograph, the only thing he had left, taunted him daily. He should remove it, throw it out, or at least place it in a drawer. Maybe then he’d forget. Maybe then he would accept his fate.

He ran the pads of his fingers over her image, remembering her sleekness, beauty. She had amazing lines and contours, and his chest swelled with pride every time they went out. And he took her out regularly. He liked to be seen with her. She gave him confidence, boosted his masculinity.

Now? He glanced over his shoulder. Now he was average. Lines and contours had been replaced with bulk and girth. Beauty by practicality. He went out only when necessary, and even then, he hunched over in the hope no one would see him.

Picking up the photograph, he wished he had kept her. He could have made room for both.

Too late. She was gone. He replaced the framed picture and turned to face her replacement. A perfectly functional family model and he, a family man. Maybe when the kids got older he’d find another sleek beauty to ease him into old age. Until then, he’d settle.

He sighed and slid into the driver’s side seat, hunched forward and backed out of the garage. Practicality rolled down the road and memories of her faded for another day.

  1. Awesome scene, Janet. Really. See, this is why you need to write and write and write and get your beautiful words published.

  3. Okay, that was just about perfect! I was thinking it would be a boat, but I love that it was a car! LOLOL I wish I'd had time to play yesterday. I was at my RWA chapter meeting. All freaking day. Seriously! From 9 am to 5 pm. I had committee meetings around the lunch, program, and regular business meeting.

I also finished revisions on FAERIE FOOL, and have written and revised the synopsis. I'm waiting on my CP to send me the final thumbs up on it and then I'm hitting send on the submission email to my editor at Wild Rose. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hopefully, I can play next week if you do Weekend Words again!

  4. Wow - long meeting, Silver! Something like that, I need to take the entire next day off to recuperate! I blame it on my age :)

Woo Hoo on finishing the revisions! I have my fingers and toes crossed - I know they'll want the third story in the FAERIE SERIES!! I can't wait to hear more about it - and let us know the moment you hear anything!

I believe Weekend Words will be a weekly event - looking forward to having you play along!
