Tubs, people - we're talking tubs!
I have a bath every weekend - don't worry, I do shower during the week! With the option of having Time-of-Day Electrical Power Saving, our house is run mostly at night and on weekends. The in-floor heating comes on at night - radiates warmth all day, the dishwasher is set to come on after we go to bed, all laundry gets done on weekends, the water heater powers up during the night, and I have my very hot, very long bath usually on a Saturday.
I love baths so much that I wake up on a Saturday and that's my first thought...'ooh, bath day'! And because I look forward to the ritual so much, I turn on the water heater (to make sure I have lots of hot water) around noon. Yes, my bath can't wait for night time, I have begun filling that tub in the middle of the afternoon!
But that's not such a bad habit, is it? No, the bad habit is the fact that I have taken to napping in the tub!
This is the first bathtub I've ever 'owned' that allows me to stretch out comfortably (when we housesat, there was a clawfoot tub, which was fantastic, but still too short for my almost 5'10" frame). In my present tub, my feet stick out by just a bit, but are still resting inside the tub's surface as opposed to half way up the wall as I've experienced previously. The tub is contoured on both ends, so my head rests comfortably as opposed to bent at a 45 degree neck-wrenching angle. The rest of my body is completely submerged - no knees sticking out (which happened when I had to bring my feet back into the water to warm them up).
So, with my almost my whole body under the water and my head and feet anchoring me, it does not take me long to fall asleep. And we're talking sound asleep! I've woke myself up a couple of times with my snoring! I swear - tub napping is just as good (or maybe better with the fact you're all warm and the water is so buoyant - I use epsom salts, which makes the water even more floaty) as couch napping! And no one intrudes - so I don't have the startling wake-up call of the dog's cold nose poking me or The Husband's desire to turn on the TV and watch golf! It's perfect!
Are you a bath person? Do you read in the tub, or nap? What's your weekend indulgence, People of Blogland? What do you look forward to the most on weekends?

OMG, I haven't had a bath in years. This house only has one tub, and it sucks. For me, even if I had a good tub, baths aren't about getting clean, and all about relaxing, which is why they were more like a once a quarter thing. I'd light some candles, grab a book and a glass of wine, and soak until the water went cold.
ReplyDeleteAll about relaxing!!! Absolutely - and obviously I'm pretty relaxed in that tub, B.E. ;)
DeleteAs you can see from the picture, I do light candles - yes, that's my tub up there - or I should say I did...now that I'm in the bath in the afternoon, there's too much light. But I face a window that looks out over some beautiful trees, so the view is amazing. Until I fall asleep, that is!
Sleeping in the tub worries me, Janet. DO NOT FALL ASLEEP.
ReplyDeletePlease. Just bask in the glory of it. No sleeping.
BTW, I am a worry wart.
Enjoy. Esp with lots of candles and maybe some soft music.
Blessings.
Thanks for worrying about me, Barb :) But you don't have to worry too much - I'm wedged in so well, there's no way I'm going to slip under. And The Husband, now that he knows I've been napping, does come in to check on me.
DeleteAs I said to B.E., I used to do the candle thing when it was night time - no music (that really would put me to sleep). I also used to read in the tub, maybe I should go back to that, then I wouldn't fall asleep (and if I did, that would be a good sign that the book needed to be abandoned).
Thanks for stopping by, Barb - good to 'see' you!
I LOVE my bathtub. I should use it more often than I do. It's a soaker tub, nice and deep. I love to read in the bath but now that I have an ereader I'm scared it'll get wet. I've thought about putting it in a ziploc bag but somehow that ruins the ambiance. So I have to make sure I have a paper book. I use epsom salts, but love LUSH's bath balms. Some of their scents are heavenly.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check to see if I can get LUSH's bath balms around here. I always use Epsom, even with my bubble bath or bath bombs - there's just something about the relaxation quality of epsom salts.
DeleteYeah, something about your e-reader in a baggie just doesn't seem right, Karyn! LOL! As someone who has dropped a book into the bathtub, I understand your hesitancy about using the electronic device!!!
Janet,
ReplyDeleteSleeping in the tub reminds me of Youngest Son as a teen. Waking him required firing a real canon next to his head Well, maybe I just shouted and probably a canon wouldn't have helped much anyway. Finally, when he had about seven minutes to shower, dress, eat and walk to school, he was to be found sound asleep on the floor, in the corner of the shower stall. I guess, as the water heater emptied, he got clean enough....
We don't have a tub any more! We installed a walk-in shower with a seat I've never sat on, but a rail I clutch till I leave fingerprints because of my new trick of falling over a lot if I turn quickly. I do love that shower stall.
Eldest Son, a police sgt., has a second job as a personal trainer.. He has just set up a program for me he ensures will guarantee I'll never have to ask a passing stranger to help me up from a crouch, after looking at something on the bottom shelf at Walmart. Getting out of shape is not a terrific plan. When I can see pavement, I will take your advice and walk a lot.
We had a tub in Brandon which had a cupboard installed over the sitting end and nice taps to remind us that sitting there for long was not a worthy plan. We installed a telephone shower head.
What is a weekend? Since we retired, it doesn't matter. We buy a newspaper for the date (and to read) and if there is no paper by 7 a.m., it's time to get ready for church. We have a magnetic calendar of the fridge, but I still have to check the newspaper. This is pretty close to heaven - and so are we.
Ooh, good luck with the program, Connie! You'll feel so much better knowing that if you do get down into the crouch, you'll get back up without any problems!!
DeleteAnd take care in that shower! We don't need you falling and hurting yourself - you need to be around for a long time to enjoy that retirement (and the days where you rely on the paper to tell you what day it is :)
What I wouldn't give for a bath! Showers. For like...however long we've lived in this house. We have a tub but it's short even for my 5'7" frame and shallow. I had a massive claw-foot tub in one house and a 30's era corner tub in another house. I miss them like damn-and-whoah! I miss my hot tub too. :(
ReplyDeleteWeekend indulgence? Hrmmm. We used to go out for a big breakfast at a favorite restaurant specializing in breakfast dishes. Now Lawyer Guy sleeps in. If I had a real *soaker* tub, I'd use those mornings to pamper myself!
We had a hot tub - I miss ours, too. There was nothing like an evening soak in the -20 degree weather. And I slept like a baby those years we lived in that house and used the hot tub. *sigh*
DeleteI don't think I could live with just a shower. Of course, if I had to, I would...or I would find a really good friend who wouldn't mind if I borrowed her tub on occasion!
I bathe when I'm stressed or if I want to pamper myself; and I do it all: read, listen to music, candles and wine (not necessarily at the same time). I love baths.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great stress reliever, Sandy! There are times during the week when I wish I could fill the massive tub with stinking hot water and soothe all my worries away...but we are nothing, if not frugal; so I wait for the half price weekends.
DeleteI have a bath to treat myself, but I like to wait until later in the day...or in the evening...and take it with a good book and a glass of wine :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. we have the time of day thing too with our electricity. Going away on the weekend puts a wrinkle into my laundry time (ha, ha)
ReplyDeleteGoing away on the weekend puts a wrinkle into my laundry time.
DeleteGood one, Sara :)
Yes, there are draw backs to the half-price time of day thing, but I guess a penny saved is a penny earned! And if there's anyway to not pay The Man, we're all for it!
Seems a good book and a glass of wine are definite pluses with this group!!
Don’t forget, the Mayakoba Golf Classic on the beautiful Riviera Maya in Mexico will be airing Feb 22-26. See Greg Norman, Johnson Wagner and Nick Price among others. Check out the website for more information, details and news. http://bit.ly/AET4GZ
