Inspiration - Decisions...

Vacillating people seldom succeed. Successful men and women are very careful in reaching their decisions, and very persistent and determined in action thereafter. ~ L.G. Elliot

We can do anything we want as long as we stick to it long enough. ~ Helen Keller

When you cannot make up your mind which of two evenly balanced courses of action you should take - choose the bolder. ~ William Joseph Slim

A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided. ~ Tony Robbins

The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure , the process is its own reward. ~ Amelia Earhart

Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Happy Wednesday :)

  1. I used to be persistent and determined. I used to be tenacious. I used to be able to make decisions about my writing and move forward. (Okay, so I was never as bold as I should've been...) 8 years can really kick all those qualities out of a gal.

I need to find those qualities again. The question is how?

I think you and I have been on this path for the same amount of time, B.E.! And it does get very discouraging and heartbreaking.

I'll keep looking for the how - and if you find it before me, share, K?

  2. *raises hand* One word at a time, ladies. That's how you do it. You learn your craft, you hone your skills by writing and writing again and then still writing more. You grow a thick skin. You treat your "baby" like a business and somehow convince yourself you aren't a bad "parent" for doing so. You take risks and make your own chances. And you don't give up. You pick yourself up, dust off your britches, get BICHOK and try again. Eventually, you'll find your path. I promise. But you have to WANT to find it. Without that desire, nothing will get you there.

    Great inspiration today, Janet!

    1. OK - next time I do an Inspiration Wednesday on going after your dreams, I'm quoting you, my friend! Wow - that's some powerful advice - and the last bit (But you have to WANT to find it. is the key!

So instead of asking myself WHAT I want, I need to ask myself WHY I want it - interesting fodder for my journal writing...and possibly, then, the decisions will be that much easier to make :)

Glad you liked the quotes today, Silver - I thought of you often as I searched them out this morning!

  3. Great quotes, Janet.

Of course, the question that springs immediately to my mind is, "What decisions is Janet grappling with at the moment?" Hmmmm. Sometimes it helps to have someone else listen as you work your way through pros and cons. Care to have coffee sometime over the weekend?

      Gald you enjoyed the quotes!

  4. My problem is being 71. With the speed at which editors move, any manuscript of mine would be published posthumously! Silly perhaps, but a real drag when I start to write.

Our house is a major mess - always has been and, despite my frantic efforts, probably always will be - BUT - I can't stop trying to make a dent somewhere. It really is awful and there is no way I can let it go on.

My MS strangely disappearing with no earthly reason why it should, except retaliation for something I said or did, is also a severe pain. (He moves in June).

My ideas are to write a Rutherford style of book, using unusual periods of time, based on of the life of my 2200 year old ring.

A series of short stories, each set in one of the European cities I have visited.

Or, I could rent a dumpster! or a front end loader?

I like the quotes but Silver, your's I will print and pin to the wall.

I have been working in the garden! The temps have been in double digits, YAY!

My question is: Why did Janet leave us without a little inspiration for three days this week????

And, what is she working on?

    1. Perhaps you should take a page from our very wise friend Silver, Connie, and consider self-publishing! I tell you, her story and process and enthusiasm has given rise to some questions and pondering on my part. And I don't blame you for wanting to print out her quote - brilliant!

Love the idea of a story based on the old ring you have - get busy!

      Yes, I've been absent - laying low, as I told B.E. - working on...decisions!

  5. Great quotes, Janet. I always appreciate them. I've been thinking about decisions lately too, but I don't think I'm really ready to make one yet. But I do understand the quandary and often think of Pavarotti when I have a dilemma such as this. I like how he explained that when he was a boy, his father, a baker, introduced him to the wonders of song, and urged him to work hard to develop his voice. Pavarotti took his father's advice, but he also enrolled in a teacher's college. Upon graduation he asked his father, "Shall I be a teacher or a singer?"

"Luciano," his father replied, "if you try to sit on two chairs, you will fall between them. For life, you must choose one chair."

    1. Glad you liked the quotes today, Suse (and great to 'see' you :) I LOVE the Pavarotti story!! Great analogy for decision making - and one I'll remember as I move forward with some 'interesting' decisions in my life!!
